Orkney keepsakes

Only rarely does the first print from a newly-made plate produce the desired image. More usually several proofings are necessary, resulting in many trial prints as elements of the plate are adjusted. Most of these are good in parts, since it is a well-known phenomenon that an area 1” square frequently contains all the elements one is seeking to express in a plate many times larger.
The thirty or so collagraph plates made for the ‘Stone chamber,’ ‘Runes’ and ‘Forecast’ series produced a correspondingly large pile of trial prints. From these, and from earlier Orkney work, ‘micro images’ were cut and assembled into a unique composite which it is hoped will trigger memories and recreate a sense of this lovely place.
