Coast Walks

‘Whale Dawn’ illustrates the occasional ‘curate’s egg’ nature of printmaking – an early proof from the ‘Landscape from Window’ plate was overprinted with a proof from a second much worked-upon but subsequently rejected etched and collagraphed plate.

Much of the resultant print contained looked-for elements which justified a selection and re-combining of the best to create a vivid four part narrative series capable of inspiring many interpretations. To me, it spoke vividly of a midnight feast of whale-watching on a Stromness summer solstice.
